Since 2017 he is a Scientific Researcher at the Bioengineering and Health Technology Unit of the Jes\u00fas Us\u00f3n Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre in C\u00e1ceres (Spain). His current research interests are in health information systems, patient safety, health informatics, and management of healthcare. He is the author of more than 250 publications and received international recognition among peers demonstrated by more than 23000 citations. During his career he has supervised more than 300 master\u2019s dissertations and 35 doctoral theses. He was the President of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) from 2010 to 2012; and the Vice-President of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) representing EFMI from 2012 to 2014.
